l Environment Monitoring (HJ) Family

HJ-1C is China's first SAR(Synthetic Aperture Radar)band satellite, which exploits the development direction of light miniaturization of SAR satellites in China. HJ-1C constitutes an environmental disaster reduction constellation with the HJ-1A/B launched in 2008, which is significant for disaster reduction, environmental monitoring, forecast and follow-up service system construction.

HJ-1C is DFH’s first SAR satellite. The resolution inthestrip model is 5m at 40km swath, and its scan model is 20m at 100km swath. The satellites efficiently and accurately fulfill multiple needs of environment observation missions, with the tailored most professional and reliable payloads, for instance, CCD camera, infrared scanner, hyper-spectralcameras etc. It was launchedinNovember 2012.

HJ-2E is a successor satellite to the HJ-1-C. The design life of HJ-2E has been increased from 3 years to 8 years.  It is a 5-meter resolution S-band radar satellite for disaster reduction, emergency management, and environment monitoring. The satellite provides essential data for Resources Satellite Data and Application (CRESDA).HJ-2E was launched to an approximately 500 km sun-synchronous orbit in October 2022.

l China-France Oceanic Satellite (CFOSAT)

CFOSAT is developed and exploited under Chinese - French cooperation, jointly supported by CNSA (China National Space Administration) and CNES (Centre National d’Etudes Spatiales). It aims to study the characteristics of ocean surface winds and waves.

CFOSAT caries two radar instruments, one is SWIM (Surface Waves Investigation and Monitoring), a wave scatterometer supplied by CNES; SWIM’s 6 rotating beams enables it to measure wave properties (direction, wavelength, etc.),and the other is SCAT (wind SCAT thermometer), a wind-field scatterometer supplied by CNSA. SCAT measures wind intensity and direction. CFOSAT was successfully launched in October 2018.
